“Our status symbol is under the hood, not on it.” – Bayerische Motoren Werke
Shortly after World War II, BMW was the first to introduce the 501 Limousine. It was equipped with a six-cylinder engine, and the engineers soon realized they had to dig deeper into their arsenal to compete. At the Geneva Motor Show, BMW launched the 502, the first post-war BMW with a V8. Not only was the BMW faster than its predecessor and competitors, with a top speed of 160 km/h, but it was also more luxurious in every aspect.
If you were truly at the top in the 1950s and wanted a convertible, you would visit the coachbuilder Baur. Since 1910, this was the place where owners of luxury models from Mercedes-Benz, Maybach, and Horch could elevate their cars to the next level and customize them to their liking.
Our example is truly special! One of only 57 two-door convertibles ever produced, originally delivered by Baur at the renowned BMW dealer in Cologne, Bischof & Co. Finished in GrauGrün with a green leather interior. With only three owners, the last of whom has cherished it for 51 years. This is truly a rarity in automotive history… and we don’t say that often!
