Italjet

Year of foundation 1960

Italjet
Italjet's history is one of passion, innovation, and design, deeply rooted in Italy's Motor Valley. Founded by a former motorcycle racer, the company has distinguished itself for its ability to create unique and bold vehicles, which have earned a prominent place on the international scene.

The Origins: A Rider with a Vision
It all began in 1959, when Leopoldo Tartarini, a renowned motorcycle racer with a distinguished track record (including a world tour by motorcycle between 1957 and 1958), decided to found his own company. His vision was clear: not to produce simple vehicles, but design objects with sophisticated mechanics and a distinctive style. Initially, the company was called Italemmezeta and installed engines produced by the German manufacturer MZ.

Success and Innovation
In the years that followed, Italjet made a name for itself thanks to its creativity and ability to anticipate trends. Among its most famous and innovative models are:

The Pack 2: This moped, the result of aesthetic and functional research, achieved international recognition when, in 1980, it was exhibited in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York, becoming the only motorized two-wheeled vehicle there.

The Formula 50 L.C.S.: A scooter with a futuristic design and cutting-edge technical solutions (such as the independent steering system), it was exhibited at the Guggenheim Museum in New York in the exhibition "The Art of the Motorcycle."

The Dragster: First launched in 1995, the Dragster became an icon thanks to its exposed steel trellis frame and aggressive, unconventional design. It won over an entire generation of enthusiasts, selling over 70,000 units worldwide.

In addition to scooters and mopeds, Italjet also ventured into the world of racing, participating in trials championships and the 125cc MotoGP World Championship in the early 2000s.

From Difficulties to Rebirth
Despite its success, the company faced difficult times. In 2003, due to financial problems, it declared bankruptcy and suspended motorcycle production. However, Italjet's story did not end there. In 2007, Massimo Tartarini, son of founder Leopoldo, revived the brand, initially focusing on the production of electric and pedal-assisted bicycles.

In 2018, at EICMA, Italjet announced its grand return to the world of motorcycles, unveiling a new version of its most iconic model: the new Dragster. This new model, which maintains the aggressive aesthetic and trellis frame, represents continuity with the glorious past and the desire to project itself into the future with the same boldness and innovative spirit that have always distinguished the company.
