Excellence on Road and Rally – Mercedes 190 SL
The Mercedes 190 SL perfectly illustrates the importance of listening to feedback. After the 300 SL was introduced, an American Mercedes importer noted that while many were interested, the 300 SL was too expensive for the average consumer looking for a weekend car. Following a conversation with headquarters in Germany, swift action was taken, that same year, the 190 SL (based on the Ponton) was unveiled at the New York Auto Show. A year later, the production version was ready and presented in Geneva. Interestingly, the car was not positioned as a sports car but as a comfortable two-seater. This proved to be a great success, with over 25,000 units rolling off the German production line between 1955 and 1963.
Our Mercedes-Benz 190 SL was originally delivered in 1957 in Bergen, Norway. There, it underwent a full restoration and was enjoyed for a long time by a major car collector. This restoration was carried out with attention to detail, with the intention of bringing the car back to the same quality and authenticity as when it first left the factory. Every component was checked for optimal use. In an exceptional color combination and equipped with a special option for an extra seat in the rear. Can you imagine driving around with the feeling that the car has just come off the factory line, while the music of The Beatles and The Rolling Stones plays in the background?
That’s what we call a true 'Cool Classic'!
