In 1955, the W188 model series received a significant update and was renamed the Mercedes-Benz 300 Sc. The enhancements included chrome-plated wheel rims and additional chrome trim, a single-joint swing axle at the rear, and, most notably, a sophisticated direct petrol injection system that boosted the power output by 25 hp. The designation Einspritzmotor (injection engine) was prominently displayed on the rear bumper. The new engine produced 175 hp (129 kW), allowing the car to reach a top speed of 180 km/h. Between January 1956 and July 1957, only 98 Coupés, 49 Cabriolets A, and 53 Roadsters were built, making this one of the rarest Mercedes models ever produced. Remarkably, it was even more expensive than the iconic Gullwing when first introduced! This particular car, chassis number 1880156 500144, was initially registered to a Mercedes-Benz board director. Some of its standout features include:
Ultra-rare floor gear shift (not column) Twin spare wheels Rear luggage cases Interior by Hecker and Lüder in Belgium Wood – Palisender Leather – Mercedes Natur Exterior paint 904 Mercedes period Dark Blue Completely overhauled engine, gearbox, and axles
Beautifully restored, with an indicated 29,931 kilometers, this car has been part of an exceptional collection since 2010, serviced and maintained by Finest Sports & Historic Cars in Lingen, North Germany. Like all cars in the collection, it is permanently registered, regularly driven, and receives the highest level of maintenance. **
