The brand takes its name from French explorer Antoine Laumet de La Mothe, sieur de Cadillac, founder of the city of Detroit. Cadillac initially began as a precision automobile manufacturer, focusing on the quality and reliability of its components. In 1908, the brand was acquired by General Motors, becoming one of its flagship luxury brands.
